What Good is Guilt?

For a long time I thought there was no value to guilt and wished that I could simply stop feeling it. Then I decided to do some research to see how I (and everyone) could benefit from it. As far as I can tell the benefit of guilt is what we learn from our behavior or role in the situation that caused the guilt in the first place. We have feelings for a reason and guilt can motivate us to improve our behavior if we remember the five R’s. First you must Recognize your part in the situation then take Responsibility for your error. Remorse is shown with sincerity when you apologize or Repair. Making a Resolution to learn from it and improve your behavior offers an opportunity to grow and develop as a person. This helps me to use guilt to my benefit and recover from it in a productive way. Hope that it has the same effect for you!
