Competition

One of my all time favorite songs is Peace of Mind by Boston because it’s so uplifting and grounding all at once. When listening to (and singing along of course) I consider the line, “People living in competition. All I want is to have my peace of mind.” Why compete with other’s is what I wonder. Competition with yourself is very gratifying and pushes me to be better, in whatever respect I want to be. Being inspired by the accomplishments and success of other people just feels more valid to me over competing with them. It is, after all, only my decisions, actions and feelings that I have control over. As a result of this I will continue to ‘one up’ or ‘best’ myself in every way possible because that is what brings me peace of mind.
