Intermittent Fasting is the act of refraining from food or drink at irregular intervals for various reasons. In essence, we all do this, but sometimes get lost in the details.
I started Intermittent Fasting for the same reason as many of you, to drop some weight. Some reasons why this works are; the absence of food allowing your body to tap into stored energy (fat), rest time for the G.I tract so it may heal and work better, more quality sleep and restorative time when your body isn’t trying to digest while it rests and improved insulin sensitivity due to the regular absence of it.
When practicing this without overthinking or worrying about time restraints it will likely work in your favor. Feeling restricted or governed by the clock is why I stopped the practice in an effort to lower my cortisol levels which is known to pack on weight around the waistline. I adopted the more relaxed Intuitive Feeding approach, eating when truly hungry in a comfortable social environment and stopping when satisfied bringing joy to my meal experience. Though it took some time to edit my eating habits it was well worth it because enjoyment of food and my flat tummy is a great feeling!
