Yes, but not to the exclusion of all other nutritional information. Carbohydrates, protein and fat are macronutrients and for some silly reason fiber hasn’t been identified in this classification though it exists in whole carbs and plant fats.
Following a pre-determined macro split has a far greater chance of leaving you frusterated and restricted than happy and healthy. It overlooks the importance of micronutrients and the overall nutrient density of varying foods…think bang for your buck. Because dietary choices affect our digestion, metabolism, hormones, neurotransmitters, cognitive function, sleep quality and overall health it’s important to eat well – without the stress.
Eating a variety of quality whole plant foods supplies your body with an approriate balance of carbs, protein and fats without the worry of counting. These nutrient dense foods contain all of the good stuff without refined sugars and animal fats. As such a whole plant food diet often results in more energy, better sleep, weight loss and maintenance. Doesn’t enjoying food sound better than counting it?
