We’re finally breaking away from the bitter cold of winter and I’m lovin’ the current temperatures! The spring season also brings to mind different types of warm-ups that are more personal in nature (see what I did there). When preparing myself or clients for a workout I enjoy general mobility and dynamic warm-up moves tailored to the upcoming exercises. Much like Mother Nature, our bodies require an appropriate introduction to the exercises that lay ahead for many reasons. Some of which are; getting the blood pumping, joints mobilized and muscles warmed to encourage a safer and more effective workout. Sometimes it can be a challenge to ‘warm-up’ to the idea of a workout or anything else for that matter. In this case I find it helpful to spend a little time considering the activity and its potential benefits for you. Perhaps even bargain with yourself using a ‘this or that’ scenario. For example, “I can hit this workout today OR work on mobility and stretching so that I’m better prepared for a workout tomorrow.” Once you’ve warmed up to the thought of something it’s a lot easier to warm-up to the action of it and this builds an empowering habit of problem solving!
