Good Gut = Toned Tummy

There’s a real debate over the gut being the first or second brain due to the sequence of development in utero and the important part it plays achieving and maintaining our overall health and fitness. I’ll hit the highlights for the purpose of a condensed blog. Neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine are created in the gut to affect our mood, movement and memory. Digestive hormones (and more) are also created in the GI tract acting as messengers they move through our body telling it what to do and when to do it. In times of hormonal imbalance our gut can eliminate excess (unnecessary) hormones. SCFA’s are made in the gut and play a vital role supporting gut health plus glucose and lipid metabolism. When these and other gut processes occur the result is often less inflammation and bloating with improved gut motility – aka a toned tummy. Small but consistent lifestyle changes like eating a fiber rich diet, stress management practices and daily physical activity promote a good gut internally and a toned tummy externally!
