Genes & Jeans

Our genes determine many physical characteristics but the research findings on ‘fat genes’ dictating our body fat composition vary widely. Being reported as low as 6% to a whopping 80% leaves much room for confusion and disappointment to say the least. No matter what research study or finding you agree to isn’t there also room for hope? It is, after all, commonplace in much of this research to read the importance of lifestyle habits and the role they play in our shape, size and weight.

Healthy lifestyle practices include but are not limited to the following. Daily activity over lethargy promotes fat loss, energy, endorphin boost and more. The balance of this with appropriate rest time (including quality sleep) supports restorative systems in our bodies like repair and regeneration of our cells. A hearty salad has more nutritional benefit than a pizza but giving yourself permission to enjoy the pizza without guilt also has a profound effect on how you feel and look.

Rather than accepting any limitations (or predispositions) that have been placed on you, consider what positive decisions and actions you can take to change your body. In doing so you will gain a feeling of empowerment at the very least and you’ll likely decrease your jean size as well!
