Meno – pause

Take a moment to consider this.  What many of us understood about weight management prior to menopause begins to change leading upto, during and post menopause.  Hormones are chemical messengers that regulate various systems in our bodies, including the location of body fat storage.  As our estrogen levels decrease fat gravitates towards our bellies more so than our curvy areas including breasts, hips and thighs.  Often adding to this unwelcomed predicament is a rise in our cortisol levels, due to chronic stress, which also causes visceral (belly) fat storage.  Well s#it right?

The natural solutions to this dilemma include regular exercise, whole plant foods and stress management practices.  Find activities that you enjoy and do them almost every day.  Challenge yourself to try one new veggie, fruit or whole grain each week.  They are naturally hormone free and the fiber in them binds to and eliminates excess hormones from your gut.  Be as kind to yorself as you have always been to others by saying no when you need a break and indulging in self care, including down time and quality sleep.  I bet you’d agree that great things about aging are the accumulation of kindness and wisdom so aren’t we best served to use them on ourselves?
