Some measurable targets of a fitness goal are waistline, weight and wellness. The first two are objective measurements (verifyable data) where the third involves subjectivity (personal interpretation). This is where so many of us lose sight of our wins. The ongoing assesment process helps us to avoid this shortfall.
Subjectivity can take the win-d out of our sails.
I remind clients often of their strength, stability and mobility gains because these wins protect them from osteoporosis, postural imbalances and injury. The energy to chase children or grandchildren with ease, even in hot weather, indicates a gain in cardiovascular endurance. Although there are testing protocols for all of these, they are often based on experiences within the coach/client relationship. Celebrating client wins are one of my favorite experiences as a coach!
