What do you mean you don’t eat meat?

This is a comical question from a funny old movie but the one I get asked most is, “Where do you get your protein?” My short answer is always, “The same place that your protein gets it. I just skip the middle man.” All plant foods contain protein even though they are carb dominant. Another important fact is that the protein provided by a plant based diet offers all 9 of the currently noted essential amino acids (the building blocks of protein) as stated by the World Health Organization. It’s also currently understood that protein complimenting is unnecessary because our bodies will hold onto these amino acids and put them together in order to make complete amino acids when they’re eaten at subsequent meals. Out-dated information indicated that these points weren’t true and many people, and or agencies, keep clinging to them. Consider why agencies support this out-dated and incorrect information. Whose interest do they have in mind? Are they trying to sell you something? Statistics Canada indicates that the RDA for protein per day for adults is .8 grams per kilogram of ideal body weight. By all means make your own choices after doing some research or discussing this with a knowledgeable and trusted source but don’t believe that those of us eating a whole plant based diet are protein deficient based on out-dated and incorrect information. The earth is also not flat and I bet you agree with that newer information right?
